George Sand portrait

Le Plaix: A portrait of George Sand, the 19th century novelist. She was an aristocratic lady (and paramour of Chopin) with a château at nearby Nohant, who pretty well single-handedly was responsible for documenting the life, traditions and music of the country people of Berry. She wrote a whole sequence of novels on the subject, and was a bit like the French equivalent of Thomas Hardy. Mic referred to her as "our grandmother"!
